really wild show!
At the end of last season, we had two great shoots with Liverpool-based girls football team The Wildcats for LFC club partner Kodansha.
The first saw us travel to AXA Melwood Training Centre, the home of the Liverpool FC Women’s Team, for a training session with a difference. The Wildcats were stunned when three first teamers - Gemma Bonner, Fuka Nagano and Ceri Holland - turned up to join in the fun!
The club had already planned to do a penalty shootout and a 30 v 3 game but they asked us to come up with some additional content ideas. With Kodansha being a Japanese manga comics brand we wanted to lean into that for their local markets, so we came up with two content strands for the training day. One was the ‘Traffic Light Game’ normally played by junior footballers but with the twist that all the colours would be announced in Japanese by Fuka. The other was a highlights video featuring the girls being turned into superheroes to reflect Kodansha’s brand. You can check out the results below.
The second shoot day was just as much fun, as we travelled to LFCW’s home ground at St Helen’s to document The Wildcats attending a match against Tottenham.
For this one, alongside the highlights and half time penalty shootout videos, we produced an ‘Overheard’ video. We mic’d up four of the girls and sat them strategically at different spots in the stands so they could pick up some of the audio of the girls around them. The outcome was a hilarious look at the little interaction between young players - featuring sausage and chips, musings on the size of the pitch and a lost tooth…
