Making waves: eston leisure centre

The Brief 📝

To celebrate the opening of the new Eston Leisure Centre, built by our construction clients at Willmott Dixon, we were asked to go along to see the revamped pool in action for the first time. There were plenty of excited swimmers of all levels in attendance, including four-time Paralympic gold medal winner Maisie Summers-Newton, as well as plenty of local dignitaries.

The Challenge 🤔

With so much going on in such a short space of time (around 3 hours on site), getting full coverage to do the event justice was going to be tricky. We also had a long list of interviewees to target on the day, and fit into the edit, with the interviews to be arranged and conducted ad hoc on the day. It was also humid inside the pool area, which led to some lens foggy lenses at times!

The Approach 🎥

No one can be in two places at once, so we divided and conquered - Callum focused on the interviews, speeches and set piece activity, with Jake capturing most the GVs, b-roll and action that was running concurrently. We conducted all interviews poolside for speed and the visual context, recognising that all the background audio would also add to the atmosphere of the piece.

Having already filmed the leisure centre under construction a year previous, we were also able to match and transition through drone shots to show the progression of the build over time.
